Until when do I pay taxes in my home country? What happens after I move to the U.S. once I get the green card? Will I pay the same taxes as a U.S. citizen or is the treatment different?

Immigration attorneysPermanent residents (and conditional residents) pay taxes in the U.S. on their worldwide income. Many countries have tax treaties so you don’t pay double taxes but I advise you check with an international tax lawyer for advice on your situation.

Immigration attorneysThere is no difference between U.S. citizens and Green Card holders in terms of tax obligations. Upon obtaining a Green Card, an individual is immediately considered a U.S. tax resident. As such, U.S. tax residents are liable for taxes on their global income, irrespective of their current place of residence.
