Is applying directly to the EB-5 green card my only option?

I am from Chile and I am finishing my PhD in the UK in two years. I have no visa for the U.S. However, my idea is to relocate to the U.S at some point. I see that the EB-5 visa is a very straightforward way, unless there’s another way for me to get to get a green card?

With a PhD, you should have other options especially if you can find an employer offering you a job.

If you had a U.S. employer that is willing to sponsor you for an EB-1, EB-2 or EB-3, that might be something worth considering. Otherwise, absent that, then yes an EB-5 is a good option.

EB-5 is a great option if you want to self-petition for your green card. It is also possible to get a green card sponsorship through a US-based employer if you can find an employer willing to do that.
