I am considering the benefits of applying for the Global Residence Program instead of the Malta IIP program. We want to make sure that we find a secure, simple solution that fits our needs.

The Maltese Global Residence Program (GRP) has to be renewed every year. Under the GRP the holder must every year submit a tax return showing the remitted income, pay the relevant tax, and confirm with the relevant department that he is still satisfying the conditions of the Program. On the other hand, the IIP (Maltese Passport Program) is permanent and does not need yearly renewals. The GRP gives the right to the holder to reside and work in Malta and also provides free travel to EU and Schengen countries, however, it does not lead to a Maltese passport or citizenship.
As a general rule the e-residence card would need to be renewed annually in the first couple of years, the authorities then would typically extend the validity period to 2 years in subsequent periods, though this is not guaranteed. What is it that you are seeking to achieve/obtain by applying for the status? Perhaps the Malta Residence and Visa Programme may also suit your needs.
