How can I buy and sell and advise businesses on an F-1 visa?

I am currently using F1 OPT, and I am interested in buying and selling businesses and providing advice on business procedures without being directly involved in their operations. What would be considered a violation of my immigration status in this context?

If you are on a first period OPT, self-employment can be authorized but you need to be clear this is related to your degree. And you must work at least 20 or more hours per week in one job or an aggregate total of 20 or more hours between multiple employment opportunities. Also, F-1 students on OPT may not remain unemployed for more than a total of 90 days out of a 12 month OPT period.

As long as you aren’t being paid for these services, it should be OK.
