It has been a total nightmare to travel on I-829 which I filed back in April of 2019. The 18-month automatic extension on permanent residency also expired in December of 2020. Since then I have had temporary I-551 stamped on the passport. I recently flew out of the country and it took several hours to explain to the airline personnel my situation while flying out and flying in so I could travel. Is there any way to expedite the process on I-829 or to get any document from USCIS (which looks more professional than having a stamp and a signature on passport)?

Find the Best EB5 Visa LawyersUnfortunately, no. USCIS has the authority to expand Premium Processing but has not done so (well, they did add the E-3 process to help the very small amount of folks who need that).

Find the Best EB5 Visa LawyersUSCIS does not seem to care that I-829 applicants have this trouble. They frequently increased the receipt validity date from 18 to 24 months, even though I-829s that are supposed to be adjudicated in 90 days are taking many years.

Find the Best EB5 Visa LawyersA 551 stamp is a legit proof of permanent residency. The airline person may not have been well informed. Some of my clients travel with a letter and a friendly suggestion to the airline personnel that they can call CBP liaison. And there is also a federal Petition for a Writ of Mandamus.
