Can I travel outside of the U.S. while my I-290B is pending?

We had an I-290B motion to reopen for a denied I-829. The I-290B is pending. My wife is the main petitioner. Now I have a temporary I-551 stamp on my passport. Can I travel outside of the U.S.?

You can but you will most likely be placed in removal proceedings upon your return.

No you can't as the case is denied until the motion is granted. Basically, it's self deportation.
